If for some reason our goblet cells are non-functional, this will adversely affect
A Smooth movement of food down the intestine
B Production of somatostatin
C Secretion of sebum from the sebaceous glands
D Maturation of sperms

Detailed Solution

Goblet cells are unicellular glands present in the mucosal epithelium of the alimentary canal; they secrete mucus.
Mucus lubricates the food and the inner wall of the gut, so that food slides down the intestine easily; it also protects the epithelium from digestive enzymes and acid.
Without goblet cells there would be no lubrication, and the smooth passage of food would be affected.
Somatostatin is secreted by the delta cells of the pancreas and by the hypothalamus, sebum by the sebaceous glands of the skin, and sperm maturation takes place in the epididymis.
Hence the smooth movement of food down the intestine will be adversely affected.
