Prolonged liberal irrigation of agricultural fields is likely to create the problem of -
A Aridity
B Metal toxicity
C Salinity
D Acidity

Detailed Solution

Irrigation water always contains dissolved salts.
When fields are irrigated heavily for a long time without proper drainage, the water table rises (waterlogging), and the water evaporates from the soil surface, leaving the salts behind.
The salts are also drawn up to the surface by capillary action.
Over the years the salts accumulate in the upper layers of the soil, forming a white crust; the soil becomes saline and its fertility falls, and crop growth is badly affected.
This problem of salinity is seen in many irrigated areas, for example parts of Punjab and Haryana.
So prolonged liberal irrigation is likely to create the problem of salinity.
