Which one of the following amino-acids was not found to be synthesized in Miller's experiment ?
A Glycine
B Aspartic acid
C Glutamic acid
D Alanine

Detailed Solution

In 1953 S.L. Miller created conditions similar to those of the primitive earth in the laboratory: he passed an electric discharge at about $800^\circ C$ through a closed flask containing $CH_4$, $H_2$, $NH_3$ and water vapour.
After about a week he found that organic compounds, including amino acids, had been formed.
The amino acids identified in his experiment were glycine, alanine and aspartic acid.
Glutamic acid was not found among the amino acids synthesised in the original experiment.
The experiment supported the idea of chemical evolution proposed by Oparin and Haldane.
So the amino acid not found to be synthesised is glutamic acid.
