A certain patient is suspected to be suffering from Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. Which diagnostic technique will you recommend for its detection?
A WIDAL
B ELISA
C MRI
D Ultra sound

Detailed Solution

AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
A widely used diagnostic test for AIDS is the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), which is based on the antigen–antibody interaction and detects antibodies against HIV (or the viral antigens) in the blood.
A positive ELISA is confirmed by the Western blot test.
The Widal test is used for the diagnosis of typhoid.
MRI and ultrasound are imaging techniques for internal organs and cannot detect a viral infection.
Hence ELISA is recommended.
