Boron is a micronutrient required for the uptake and utilisation of $Ca^{2+}$, membrane functioning, pollen germination, cell elongation, cell differentiation and carbohydrate translocation. It is believed to form borate–sugar complexes that move through membranes more easily than sugars alone, so it helps in the transport of sugars in the phloem. Boron deficiency causes death of the stem and root apices, heart rot of beet and internal cork of apple. So boron in green plants assists in sugar transport.
