The first step for initiation of photosynthesis will be :
A
Photolysis of water
B
Excitement of chlorophyll molecule due to absorption of light
C
ATP formation
D
Glucose formation
Detailed Solution
Photosynthesis begins when chlorophyll molecules (in the antenna and reaction centres of the photosystems) absorb light.
The absorbed energy excites electrons of the reaction centre chlorophyll (P680, P700) to a higher energy level; the excited electrons are passed to an electron acceptor.
This then leads to photolysis of water (to replace electrons), electron transport, ATP and NADPH formation, and finally glucose formation in the Calvin cycle.
So the first step is excitement of the chlorophyll molecule due to absorption of light.
