The technique called gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) is recommended for those females
A Whose cervical canal is too narrow to allow passage for the sperms
B Who cannot provide suitable environment for fertilisation
C Who cannot produce an ovum
D Who cannot retain the foetus inside uterus

Detailed Solution

GIFT (gamete intra fallopian transfer) is the transfer of an ovum collected from a donor into the Fallopian tube of another female.
NCERT states that it is used for a female who cannot produce an ovum but can provide a suitable environment for fertilisation and further development.
Fertilisation then takes place inside her body (in vivo).
If the female could not provide a suitable environment for fertilisation, in vitro fertilisation followed by embryo transfer (ZIFT/IUT) would be used; a female who cannot retain the foetus would need a surrogate.
Hence GIFT is recommended for females who cannot produce an ovum.
