A young infant may be feeding entirely on mother's milk which is white in colour but the stools which the infant passes out are quite yellowish. What is this yellow colour due to?
A Pancreatic juice poured into duodenum
B Intestinal juice
C Bile pigments passed through bile juice
D Undigested milk protein casein

Detailed Solution

Bile, secreted by the liver, contains the bile pigments bilirubin and biliverdin, which are formed from the breakdown of the haemoglobin of worn-out RBCs.
Bile is poured into the duodenum, and the pigments pass along the intestine with the food residue.
These pigments (and their derivatives) give the faeces their yellowish-brown colour.
Pancreatic juice and intestinal juice are colourless, and casein is white.
Hence the yellow colour is due to bile pigments passed through bile juice.
