In a reaction, A + B → Product, rate is doubled when the concentration of B is doubled, and rate increases by a factor of 8 when the concentrations of both the reactants (A and B) are doubled. Rate law for the reaction can be written as:Let rate $r_1 = k[A]^x[B]^y$
Doubling B: $r_2 = k[A]^x[2B]^y = 2r_1 \Rightarrow 2^y = 2 \Rightarrow y = 1$
Doubling both: $r_3 = k[2A]^x[2B]^y = 8r_1 \Rightarrow 2^x\times2^y = 2^3$
$2^x = 2^2 \Rightarrow x = 2$
Rate = $k[A]^2[B]$
