Which one of the following pairs represents stereoisomerism :-
A Linkage isomerism and Geometrical isomerism
B Chain isomerism and Rotational isomerism
C Optical isomerism and Geometrical isomerism
D Structural isomerism and Geometrical isomerism

Detailed Solution

Isomerism is broadly of two kinds: structural isomerism and stereoisomerism.
Structural isomers differ in the way the atoms are connected; chain isomerism, linkage isomerism, ionisation isomerism and so on are types of structural isomerism.
Stereoisomers have the same connectivity of atoms but differ in the spatial arrangement of the atoms or groups.
The two types of stereoisomerism are geometrical isomerism (cis-trans) and optical isomerism (non-superimposable mirror images).
So the pair that represents stereoisomerism is optical isomerism and geometrical isomerism.
