Structure of a Neuron
1 question, with its answer.
-
What used to be described as Nissl's granules in a nerve cell are now identified as : -Nissl's granules are dark staining granules found in the cell body (cyton) and dendrites of a neuron, but not in the axon.
Electron microscopy has shown that they are masses of rough endoplasmic reticulum with attached ribosomes and free ribosomes (polysomes).
They are the site of the intense protein synthesis needed by the neuron, e.g. for making neurotransmitters and enzymes.
So Nissl's granules are now identified as ribosomes.
That is every question in Structure of a Neuron.
