Moss peat is used as a packing material for sending flowers and live plants to distant places because -
A It is easily available
B It is hygroscopic
C It reduces transpiration
D It serves as a disinfectant

Detailed Solution

Peat is formed from the moss Sphagnum, which grows in bogs.
The leaves of Sphagnum have large, empty hyaline cells that can absorb and hold a very large quantity of water, many times the dry weight of the moss.
Because of this capacity to absorb and retain water, the moss is hygroscopic.
When flowers and live plants are packed in it, it keeps them moist for a long time and prevents them from drying during transport.
This is why Sphagnum is used as a packing material for the trans-shipment of living material.
So moss peat is used because it is hygroscopic.
