The cell membranes are mainly composed of :-According to the fluid mosaic model, the cell membrane is a lipid bilayer in which proteins are embedded.
The main lipids of the membrane are phospholipids. Each phospholipid has a polar (hydrophilic) phosphate head and two non-polar (hydrophobic) fatty acid tails.
In water they arrange themselves in a bilayer, with the heads facing the aqueous media on both sides and the tails inside.
This phospholipid bilayer forms the basic structure of every cell membrane; proteins and a small amount of carbohydrate (glycolipids and glycoproteins) are associated with it.
Simple fats (triglycerides) are storage lipids, not membrane components.
So the cell membranes are mainly composed of phospholipids, as given in the answer key.
