During osmosis, flow of water through a semipermeable membrane is :-A semipermeable membrane allows solvent (water) molecules to pass through but not the solute particles.
Water molecules are in constant motion and cross the membrane in both directions.
The rate of flow from the side of lower solute concentration (where the concentration of water is higher) is greater than the rate of flow from the more concentrated side.
So water flows from both sides, but with unequal flow rates, and there is a net flow of water from the dilute solution to the concentrated solution. This net flow is osmosis.
If the flow rates were equal there would be no net movement, i.e. no osmosis.
So during osmosis water flows from both sides of the semipermeable membrane with unequal flow rates.
