What is the reason of formation of embryoid from pollen grain in tissue culture mediumTotipotency is the ability of a single living plant cell to grow into a complete plant.
When pollen grains (or anthers) are cultured on a suitable medium, the haploid pollen cells divide and form embryo-like structures called embryoids, which can grow into haploid plants (Guha and Maheshwari, 1964).
This shows that even a pollen grain cell is totipotent.
So embryoids form from pollen grains because of cellular totipotency.
