Golden rice is a transgenic rice in which genes for β-carotene (provitamin A) synthesis have been introduced; the grains are yellow and rich in vitamin A, which helps to prevent vitamin A deficiency and blindness.
No transgenic variety is completely resistant to all pests and diseases, or grows without any fertiliser.
Hence the improved transgenic rice gives high yield and is rich in vitamin A.
