Male gametes in angiosperms are formed by the division ofThe microspore mother cell undergoes meiosis to form four haploid microspores, each of which matures into a pollen grain.
The pollen grain is the male gametophyte. Its nucleus divides mitotically to form two unequal cells: a large vegetative cell and a small generative cell.
The vegetative cell has abundant food reserve and later forms the pollen tube; it does not divide to form gametes.
The small, spindle-shaped generative cell floats in the cytoplasm of the vegetative cell.
The generative cell divides mitotically to give rise to the two male gametes (sperms), either before the pollen is shed (3-celled stage) or in the pollen tube.
So the male gametes in angiosperms are formed by the division of the generative cell.
