Phenotype of an organism is the result of -The genotype is the genetic constitution of an organism, i.e. the set of alleles it carries.
The phenotype is the observable expression of its characters: appearance, structure, physiology and behaviour.
The genes set the potential for a character, but how far that potential is expressed depends on the environment (nutrition, temperature, light and so on).
For example, a plant with genes for tallness will not grow tall if it is starved of nutrients, and genetically identical plants can look different in different environments.
So the phenotype = genotype + environment.
Mutations, linkage, cytoplasmic effects and sexual dimorphism each affect only particular characters.
So the phenotype of an organism is the result of genotype and environment interactions.
