A lift of mass 1000 kg which is moving with acceleration of 1 m/s$^2$ in upward direction, then the tension developed in string which is connected to lift is : -Forces on the lift: tension T upward and weight mg downward. Net force gives the upward acceleration a:
$T - mg = ma \Rightarrow T = m(g + a)$
$T = 1000(9.8 + 1) = 1000 \times 10.8$
$T = 10,800$ N
